A satellite image shows the impact of the negative Arctic Oscillation on land surface temperatures throughout the Northern Hemisphere as observed by MODIS on NASA’s Terra satellite during December 2009. While much of the Northern Hemisphere has shivered in a cold snap in recent weeks, temperatures in the Arctic soared to unusually high levels.
